Biovisionary

A short-short screenplay

After an ambitious young environmental researcher discovers an otherworldly invasive species on a New England beach, she fights to publish her findings before the entire ecosystem is put at risk of complete collapse.

The story begins with our researcher barging in her research base, with a large, strange sample in her hands. Concerned, her mentor discusses her findings with her while investigating the sample. She wants to report it immediately, but after a bit of back and forth, she realizes he wants to destroy the sample and brush it under the rug. He says it’s too much of a liability, a local crew can clean it up, we don’t have to make a huge deal about it. She pushes back, emphasizing the necessity of a full-scale cleanup/eradication effort, which is met with a stern lecture about mass hysteria and exodus, and how she’d be painted as the catalyst. Who would want to be the cause of an economic crash when the entire eastern seaboard has to be shut down? Will her will be broken, or will she bear the burden of saving the shoreline?

After seeing a lot of environmental challenges over the past couple of years, I couldn’t help but wonder how many of them were swept under the rug for a long time before anything was actually done. I wanted to take that idea to its logical limits, by introducing something more noticeably dire to get the audience thinking what other problems may be getting glossed over. It’s an environmental film, with a bit of sci-fi spice.

My Immortal Adaptation

My Immortal - Chapters 1-4

An Adaptation for a Podcast

For Message Design, I decided to adapt four chapters of the infamous Harry Potter fan-fiction, My Immortal, into a podcast script.

I did end up recording and producing the short podcast, which can be listened to below. Be aware, this is an explicit script.
